Apparently Community is a television show or something, but this is still a volunteer, community-based (and well, Community-based) project!

For matchmaking, I recommend giving the Discord a try https://t.co/u7PMtOcCXF?amp=1. Probably best to bring your own friends, though. aunegg#9487 can occasionally be a free rental friend when not busy, though! If you want to just hop on and play, there’s no single player or bots so you might want to skip at this time.

And now for those who are just interested in whether or not this game is good, or a bit of history on the game, let’s proceed!

The Title and Works of Influence

I don’t really watch television much. I just recently watched Star Trek Enterprise for the first time, over a decade-and-a-half after it’s cancellation. I’ve watched a grand total of two Star Wars movies (The Phantom Menance and The Last Jedi). Perhaps I’ll have even seen the first season of Star Trek Discovery and Star Wars: A New Hope before 2030? I wouldn’t count on it. Not only are my recent watches not so recent, but they are also within the science-fiction and science-fantasy genres. As I write this, I still don’t really know what Community is except that it’s a television show. Probably something the kids are into these days. *Gets to researching the show*

Talk about being out-of-the-loop. A television show involving Chevy Chase (he’s still around?) that ended in 2015 after a six season run is hardly new but still new enough to be out of my purview. It’s a meta-humor, reference-filled comedy about community college life and one of those shows that never really had broad appeal but within it’s specific fan base. #sixseasonsandamovie became a thing when the show faced cancellation after five seasons. The sixth season was picked up by Yahoo! Screen (it’s like Amazon Prime Video except Yahoo! and marketed much more poorly). Discussions of a movie have been in the works ever since. This game utilizes the environment and meta-humor for a paintball FPS.

Impressions of the Game

I won!

Steam is overloaded by bad first person shooters and within that set of bad first person shooters, there are a lot of bad paintball mods and paintball standalone games. I figured this would be, at best, a solid title in the world of subpar paintball-themed FPS titles. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the gun mechanics are solid, controls are responsive, and the map is deliberately designed in such a way to support 16 players playing a variety of ways. You can camp, lean around corners, or play run-and-gun style of play more akin to arena shooters of old. This game could definitely use more maps and more modes, but the underlying mechanics and presentation are more than serviceable for a free multiplayer title.

You can also choose from a wide variety of characters from the show. I recognize Chevy Chase. Apparently Joel McHale is the one to the far left. No idea who the rest are, but the two ladies next to Joel look familiar. Given Chevy Chase’s history of being a bit of a douchebag, any opportunity to pelt him with paintballs is a win!

You’ll have to bring along your own opposition to this game, but if you can find other players — the underlying game is definitely worth it. You don’t even have to be a fan of the show to appreciate the quality on display here.
