Reviewing More Steam Games [Oct 2024, part 2]
Let’s take a look at some more random games from Steam and see if we can uncover any hidden gems.
Fantasy World Souls is a classic JRPG-inspired MORPG by the solo developer Anderson Camilato do Nascimento. The game is primarily in Brazilian Portuguese. Online translation software was seemingly used for the English text, but it is not overtly terrible. The game has about 79% positive reviews, an all-time peak player count of 44 which occurred 5 months ago, and a 24-hour peak of 18 players. It was buy-to-play but is now free-to-play.
The music and pixel art are fairly decent, albeit some of the art like the title screen borrow excessively from existing work to the point of being borderline theft. The maps could definitely use more work. There’s no quest log and other basics of modern MMORPGs are also missing. Everyone who was a player character seemed to be idling, which is apparently for some sort of currency or reward. There are pay-to-win items present.
This game is cute, moderately enjoyable, and has a lot of potential. It’s an impressive title given it appears RPGMaker was used for it and it was only developed by one person. If you really enjoy the aesthetic of NES and SNES JRPGs, this might be worth checking out, but it’s definitely too basic to give a full recommendation.
