Random MMORPGs on Steam

It has been quite some time since I’ve played any newly released MMORPGs on Steam. Let’s check out a few and see if there is any potential left in the genre.

Heartwood Online

Heartwood Online is a 2d pixel art-styled retro-inspired MMORPG with both PvE and PvP elements. It’s the only game listed on Steam by developer and publisher “E Bros”. It’s cross-platform with mobile.

Character creation is very basic. Nine uninspired hairstyles, five hair colors that are mostly gross, and four skin colors. There are four classes that are essentially a warrior, rogue, healer, and mage. Not much interesting here. The game started off with some kill / collect quests. It’s basic combat. Not terrible.. just basic.

And then after fighting with lag issues throughout all 15 minutes of gameplay, server connection was lost. In the previous two days when we attempted to login, we could not connect at all. Not certain of the location of the server, but regardless of where it is located, the lag and connection issues are unacceptable.

Less than a half hour of gameplay is insufficient to judge an MMORPG. We’ll revisit this one in the future. There’s at least a bare minimum amount of quality here if you don’t have connection issues. And it’s free-to-play.
