Yet another album I listened to recently. This one is highly recommended for those into post-rock and related music and want an introduction to Tortoise.

Tortoise — A Lazarus Taxon (2006)

Tortoise is a bit of an oddity, emerging from late grunge era on many trip hop and related complications yet not really quite fitting with artists typical of the genre. Some publications (i.e. Village Voice) even labeled it as being “hip hop”. The most common label used nowadays is “post-rock”, but even that label fails to adequately describe their music.

This is a three CD set of recordings up to this point in their history. The compositions are complex, often groove-heavy, and serve as background music or for more focused listening equally well. If you haven’t heard Tortoise, this is a great place to start!
