We’ll spend this week reviewing some of the lesser known classics of Steam.
8BitMMO may look appealing to fans of retro-style games and sandbox MMO enthusiasts, but unfortunately, its charm doesn’t go much deeper than pixel graphics. At first glance, the game’s blocky, pixelated visuals might evoke a sense of nostalgia, yet even by retro standards, the graphics are rough to the point of being almost intentionally unattractive. The colors are flat, the sprites are simplistic to the point of blandness, and overall, it lacks the polish even other 8-bit homages typically provide.
The gameplay itself quickly wears thin. With extremely repetitive maps and missions that feel like a drag-and-drop clone of each other, any novelty or enjoyment you may initially feel dissolves almost immediately. There’s a lot of aimless wandering involved, and the missions rarely deviate from basic, grind-heavy tasks. Progression is an exercise in patience, and the lack of diversity in objectives leaves you wondering if there’s any goal at all.
As for the community and development, the developer has essentially walked away from the game, leaving it in a state of minimal support. It’s nice that the servers are still up, but with no new content or improvements, it’s clear that the game has been left on autopilot. Unfortunately, the text throughout the…
