First Impressions of Random Steam Games (Sept 2024 #3): Reviewing Some Playtests

I’ve signed up for numerous playtests that I end up never actually playing or testing in any way given my tendency to overestimate the amount of free time I have. Let’s take some time to check out these playtests to see if we can find a hidden gem.

Polygon Wizards is an arena FPS with very basic graphics and a series of six wizards to choose from — each with an elemental ability. David Malevsky, David Serfaty, and Carl Theodate developed the game but it never released to Steam other than the playtest. It has seemingly died since.

There are bots and spawn points that are both broken. That’s why there’s a tower of bots at the spawn point.

It’s easy to fall through the map, too.

It’s a game that feels like a few friends sat down to create their first game as a project for a freshman university class, not something intended for sale on Steam.
