Checking Out Random MMORPGs in September 2024 Part 4

Our journey exploring the world of lesser-known MMORPGs this month has been fairly disappointing so far with most of the games being unplayable. Hopefully some of the titles I purchased will yield a few hidden gems. Let’s take a look.

Dragon’s Hoard is a 3d MMORPG involving dragons that appears to be the developer Kreg’s first game on Steam. Out of 18 reviews, only 8 were purchased directly from Steam. 8 out of 10 of the non-Steam purchase reviews were positive; 6 out of 8 of the Steam purchase reviews were positive.

This game, despite being a supposed MMORPG, has no servers. It did allow me to create my own server and it’s just a big map of random assets and the most ugly text to server as quest markers and a tutorial. This is not a developed game. It’s more someone’s first attempt at game design, and a horribly unoptimized one at that. It also crashed multiple times.

The positive reviews are definitely questionable. This game is pure rubbish. I should have heeded the wise words of Zaxtor99 in his negative review of this “game”.

SCORE: 1/5

Grim-World:Survial (sic), also known as GrimWorld, is a survival MMO developed and published by GrimStudio. It has four total reviews with the Steam purchases both being negative reviews and the outside of Steam purchases both being positive reviews. It was released July 29th, 2004 and has no active servers, but it does offer the ability for player-hosted servers.

This game is clearly just an asset kit that has been expanded and modified slightly. The environments lack any coherence or semblance of reality. There’s not much to craft. There’s not much to engage in combat. There’s just nothing much here. It runs well on my low end PC though, and it is actually playable.

There are also odd creatures in this game, like a chicken that is more than double the size of the player character. Was this done on purpose or was it a mistake when placing the assets? Who knows. I should have listened to the English Teacher Plays review though. This is just more rubbish.

SCORE: 1/5

I hope we get better games next time.
